A fascinating new addition to the Royal Latin School archive will be on view to visitors attending the school’s next Archive Day on May 1.
More than 100 Old Latins will be attending the event, which is also a chance for anyone interested in Buckingham and social history to visit the school and explore its archive.
The new find is the diary of Mr Fuller, who was headteacher of the Royal Latin from 1909 to 1933. The diary was left by Mr Fuller’s son to the school in Gidggleswick, in Yorkshire, where he himself taught.
But the Giggleswick school archivist decided the handwritten diary, which covers the years of the First World War, should be offered back to the Royal Latin.
Royal Latin archivist and former deputy headteacher Andy Cooper said: “It’s an insight into a very different world. It really is a wonderful record of those years through the eyes of a headmaster of a school in Buckingham, with boys not coming back to school because they were helping their dads with the harvest, and terrible news of Old Latins who died during the war.
The RLS archive is open to the public on Tuesdays.
