Drug use and antisocial behaviour were on the list of concerns as town councillors met with a senior police officer on Monday night.

Superintendent Colin Paine, a former Oxford detective, heard councillors’ concerns as he updated them on Bicester policing matters.

Councillor Nick Mawer said: “Drugs and antisocial behaviour are two issues of particular concern to people in Bicester, particularly when they come together.”

Supt Paine responded by saying elderly people and disabled people who were the victims of anti-social behaviour would be a priority.

He added: “In terms of drugs, it is a cause for concern.

“Proximity to the motorway does mean the area is accessible for drug activity.

“We have put in place a small team able to respond to drugs incidents and action them very promptly.”

Other councillors raised concerns, including Councillor Dan Sames, who asked why a mobile speed camera had been placed at the end of a cul-de-sac.

After updating councillors on crime statistics, Supt Paine also gave details of a merger between police areas in Cherwell and West Oxfordshire.
