Buckingham churchgoers will be taking up their spades and praying for fine weather tomorrow, Saturday, as preparations get under way for the transformation of a new community centre set to open early in the new year.
The former Red Cross Day Centre building in Verney Close, currently a temporary home to Buckingham Library, is set to be handed over to Buckingham Parish Church early in the new year.
St Peter and Paul’s Church has been steadily growing in numbers for several years and the new venture will see it open a community outreach centre in the heart of town, initially for two years, offering a variety of courses and events for local people.
Planning is currently under way to offer bereavement counselling, marriage courses, debt advice and children’s groups.
Buckingham Town Council will hold its meetings at the centre on Monday evenings, enabling more members of the public to see itscouncillors at work.
It is hoped that the garden and greenhouse will play a part in many of the activities run at the centre, so a clear-up of the outside is essential.
