Horses, dogs and music will entertain hundreds of show-goers while money is raised for two spinal injury charities.

More than £590,000 has been donated over the years and for this year’s Bicester and Finmere Show, fundraising will support The Back-Up Trust and Spinal Research.

The show began in 1960 when a group of local businessmen and well wishers raised funds for a 17-year-old girl - Sally Haynes - who had been paralysed in a point-to-point fall.

Bigger than ever before, this year’s event on August 10 will have showjumping, qualifying competitions for the Horse of the Year Show and a challenging bareback jumping contest.

British Tentpegging Association will be demonstrating its skills, using lances, swords and guns on horseback.

There will also be a dog show including pedigree and novelty classes, such as ‘dog most like owner’ and ‘dog with the waggiest tail’.

In addition, there will be plenty of arts, crafts, gifts and food with more than 50 stalls from local businesses.

Bletchingdon Silver Band will be playing for the crowds and there will be a fun fair and donkey rides.

Lunch is provided by The Muddy Duck restaurant.

Admission fee is £7 for adults, under 16s go free.

Gates open at the Bicester Showground from 9am where parking is free.
