Bucks Best Kept Village winners announced

The winners have been announced in this year’s Bucks Best Kept Village competition – including two wins for Vale villages.

The Defraine Cup, for villages with populations between 1,500 and 3000 was won by Cheddington with Granborough finishing as runners-up.

The Tindall Cup, given to cup winners in 2013 was Halton, with Winslow the runners-up.

In other results, Weedon finished as runners-up in the Gurney Cup, for populations of up to 500 people, behind Fulmer.

Haddenham were also runners-up in the Pushman Cup, for villages with a rural population of over 3000 people, behind Chalfont St Peter.

The Morris Cup, for populations between 500 and 1500 people, was won by Hedgerley with Mursley finishing in second.

The Michaelis Cup, for small towns, went to Olney with Marlow the runners-up.

The Sword of Excellence, awarded to the winner with the highest marks, went to Fulmer while the Dashwood Trophy, for the best runner-up, went to Mursley.

Competition chairman Richard Pushman said: “There were excellent standards throughout the competing villages this year, and the judges were very impressed with the general upkeep and absence of litter.

“Almost all of the entries displayed much evidence of good village life with numerous activities and community participation.”
