Businesses and organisations in the region can access short courses and qualifications through a new centre opening in the area.

The University of Buckingham is launching its Professional and Executive Development Centre, making available professional qualifications and short courses in subjects including marketng, coaching and consultancy, finance, management and lean enterprise.

The centre will be based on the university campus, but courses can also be offered at the workplace, training venues or hotels.

John Spoerry, head of Professional and Executive Development in the Business School, said: “It is not necessary to have a degree to sign up to the courses and many of the university’s qualifications are accredited by professional institutes such as the Chartered Institute of Marketing and the Chartered Management Institute.

“The university is reaching out to the community. We already have a good relationship with a number of local businesses and would like to build on our existing links and work more closely together. We want to help small businesses and individuals become even more successful.”

The new centre will also offer master classes, workshops and other learning events incorporating training, talks, networking, knowledge exchange and CPD opportunities. Some of these are offered free and others carry a small charge.

The new centre will be launched on July 15 with a workshop titled Creativity Unleashed. The course is open to pairs of individuals from organisations with an interest in developing their creative skills.
