A motorist who knocked a cyclist from his bike, causing fatal head injuries, has been sentenced to 36 weeks’ prison.
Daniel Fallaw denied causing death by careless driving but was convicted by a jury at Oxford Crown Court last month. Yesterday, Thursday, the same court also banned him from driving for two years and ordered him to take an extended driving test at the end of the ban.
The 36-year-old, of Peregrine Way, Bicester, was driving in Neunkirchen Way in the town on December 4, 2012, when he collided with David Parris and his bicycle. Mr Parris, 48, sustained fatal injuries as a result of the collision with the silver Ford Escort which Fallow was driving.
Investigating officer PC Sian Pringle said: “Although justice has now been served, this collision resulted in Mr Parris tragically losing his life, a life that cannot be replaced.
“I would like to thank Mr Parris’ loved ones for their support during the force’s investigation and subsequent trial in court.
“The case highlights the importance of drivers being vigilant, careful and driving at an appropriate speed for the conditions.”
