A teenager from Steeple Claydon is due to star in the annual Christmas lectures at the Royal Institution to be broadcast on the BBC.

Christopher Hobbs, 15, who attends Waddesdon CE School was asked on stage during filming to help demonstrate how human beings grow and develop by ‘rewinding time’.

The audience were shown photos of Christopher at various stages in his life from the present day all the way back to an ultrasound scan from when he was 20 weeks old.

He said: “I really enjoyed being part of the lecture. Biology really interests me and I’m considering taking it as one of my A-level subjects”.

The Christmas Lectures have been held since 1825, stopping only during the Second World War, and have been hosted by famous scientists like Sir David Attenborough.

This year’s lectures are hosted by Alison Woollard, who lectures in genetics at Oxford University. She said: “Everyone has an inner scientist. Everyone can feel the excitement of discovery when things are explained carefully enough”.

The show will air on BBC Four at 8pm on December 28.
