Wildflower meadows near Bicester are to become part of a nationwide project to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Queen’s coronation.

The Upper Ray Meadows, four miles south-east of Bicester between Marsh Gibbon and the A41, are managed by the Berks, Berks and Oxon Wildlife Trust (BBOWT).

Established by HRH the Prince of Wales, the Coronation Meadows project aims to create a haven for wild plants and insects in every county.

The Prince of Wales said: “My Coronation Meadows idea came to me when I read Plantlife’s 2012 report and fully appreciated just how many wildflower meadows had been lost over the past 60 years.”

It is hoped the protection of existing meadows will inspire the creation of new sites.
