Sainsbury’s has invited schoolchildren in Bicester to design a new shopping bag to celebrate the completion of the Bicester town centre redevelopment this summer.

All schools in Bicester are being invited to join the competition as part of a school art project taking place throughout May. Children are being asked to design a print for a new shopping bag around the theme of local community.

Vince Brimble, Sainsbury’s new Bicester store manager, said: “As part of our new store opening, we really wanted to involve school children and hope they will enjoy designing a new shopping bag for Bicester whilst also thinking about their local community and helping to protect the environment.”

Two winning designs will be printed onto environmentally-friendly ‘bags for life’ to coincide with the opening of Sainsbury’s new town centre foodstore.

The competition will have two age groups, one for primary school children and one for children in secondary education.

The two winners will get a Sainsbury’s gift card worth £100, tickets for a private screening of a summer blockbuster film for friends and family in the new Vue cinema, and be part of the opening.

Two runners-up will get a £50 Sainsbury’s gift card.

A donation of sports or cooking equipment will also be made to the winners’ schools under Sainsbury’s Active Kids programme.
