Bicester Food Bank is appealing for more storage space as the number of people using the service continues to grow.
The food bank has seen the number of users more than triple since it was set up in 2006, and is hoping to increase the number of days it can open each week.
Bicester Food Bank is open on Tuesdays and Fridays in the Methodist Church Hall in Sheep Street, but organisers want to open more often. Founder Janet Ray said: “We are looking for a bigger storage unit. The one we’ve got is not really big enough now, and it’s costing us quite a lot of money.
“We’re looking for a centre to distribute from. It needs to be in the town centre with easy access for people to come and collect .
“We’d like to open Monday to Friday, but the Methodist Church can’t open every day.
“Most times when we open we get 15 to 20 families, when we were getting five or six. It is snowballing, and we’re moving a lot more food around and getting more food in.
“The storage space is not really big enough, but we can’t afford another one.”
The food bank also needs more volunteers and donations to help pay for a van and emergency items. The Launton Pantomime recently donated £300 from its production of Goldilocks.
“It is good to know that the fun we and our audiences had from Goldilocks is now supporting the really serious work being done by the food bank,” said pantomime spokesman Robert Cornford.
