Specsavers Opticians in Bicester handed over a large quantity of groceries to Bicester Food Bank on Wednesday after generous donations from members of the public.

The opticians in Crown Walk collected non-perishable food on behalf of the town’s food bank, which is based at Bicester Methodist Church.

The store also presented the charity with £60 raised during the appeal, and donated two boxes of chocolates to the food bank’s raffle.

Store director Sarah Marshall said: “We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone that has donated something, we’ve been inundated with gifts of food.

“For those who are struggling this Christmas, I’m sure it will now be a little better thanks to local people’s generosity.”

Bicester Food Bank was established in 2006. Janet Ray, manager of Bicester Food Bank, said: “This food donation will be a lifeline to many people, helping to add a little sparkle to their Christmas.

“For some, the donations they receive via the Food Bank really are a lifeline and would otherwise mean facing a pretty bleak Christmas.”

The food bank meets at Bicester Methodist Church every Tuesday and Friday from 12pm to 2pm.
